Fitting Velux windows requires skill in joinery and carpentry - to ensure the roof is structurally sound; and in roofing, so that slates or roofing tiles can be removed and replaced without damaging either them or reducing the weatherproofing of the roof. Here we see the modified joists and the Velux GGU wooden skylight in position. Velux windows are heavy, DIY fitting requires both skills and strength. (Please note that current building regulation now require a different installation method.)
