Rafter and purlins before conversion to a storage loft
Before conversion the typical rafter and purlin roof. Ragters span the length of the roof and purlins (vertical wooden strips) tie the roof halves together via the floor which is also supported. These floors are not designed to take additional weight and so require strengthening. To preserve height we suspended a floor from the rafters and inbetween the existing floor joists.
