Luxury Loft Conversion in West Yorkshire

This is an example of a luxury loft conversion in a slate roofed terrace house in Ripponden near Rochdale/Huddersfield and Oldham.

More Space - without a house move!

Our clients needed an additional bedroom but having strong ties where they live already in Ripponden close to Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire. They were keen to find ways of increasing space in their existing house thereby avoid the upheaval of moving.

The small garden in the property was also precious to this family so the decision was taken to create an additional bedroom in the loft space.

The original roof space had sufficient height and a large floor area above a stylishly decorated terraced property and certainly offered the possibility of a generous new room.

In Style

We designed a stylish large double bedroom incorporating a bank of velux skylight windows in the pitched rear facing roof and inset down lights thereby maximising the useable head height.

Into the room we added a touch of luxury with an elevated bath in an existing pediment/dormer (shown in the picture) and a solid oak floor.

Practical and Efficient

Close to the bath an extractor fan and twin skylights make for optimum ventilation.

For daytime the room is easily lit with natural daylight from the bank of six velux windows and two skylights and at night the down lighters take over keeping the room bright and airy.

Around the room generous electrical points were provided to ensure trailing wires could not disrupt the clean minimalist style of the room.

A small section of the room created a private fully tiled toilet and washbasin area which when fitted with space saving contemporary white fittings a heated chrome towel rail and a dressing gown hook ensured the luxury feel applied throughout.

The feeling of space was maximized in this area with a wall set mirror, a concealed cistern wc and a mono tap on the basin.

The side positioned doorway was cut to fit the shape of the pitched roof. The door provides access to a new space efficient kite-wind loft staircase (turns at the top and foot of the stairs). The loft stairs fit in the space above the original staircase and do not disrupt any other first floor rooms.

Accomplished!

By converting the loft, the house gained significant habitable space without encroaching on the valued garden area. The growing family avoided the costs of moving house, such as solicitor's fees, stamp duty, estate agent fees; and the attendant disruption because of relocation to friends, family and schools.
