The conversion in Preston (Lancashire) was to a detached house for use as non-habitable storage office. There were no plans requird. The loft is already insulated and has a roof support in the middle of the space.

To preserve loft height the central support remains in place (else a reinforced steel joist would be required along the apex).

Conversion process:

  1. Preservation of insulation
  2. New hatch
  3. Electrical wiring/lights installed
  4. Suspended floor
  5. Insulation of floor, walls ceiling
  6. Insulated timber stud walls either end
  7. Retractable stairs
  8. Roof aperture and Velux window
  9. Plastering, framing and skirting
  10. Final electrical fix
